After updating, Firefox won't connect to websites, only IE will. What is wrong?

After updating Firefox to its newest version after being prompted, Firefox discontinued to work. It will no longer connect to ANY website, only telling me "unable to connect."

I gave up fixing it so I tried downloading Opera, but that wouldn't connect either. So then I tried downloading Avant, but that browser does not connect either. The only browser that connects is IE 6, which has been on my computer for a long time. How can I fix this?? I don't like using IE!
